  22. You are right that you need to include the mode in the search path.
  23. That is true even if your printers are different resolutions - e.g.
  24. you need to distinguish "cmr10 at 20pt" for a 300dpi printer from
  25. "cmr10 at 10pt" for a 600dpi printer.  Both are called cmr10.600pk
  26.  
  27. But it isn't a real problem. The statement "All filenames within the
  28. tree must be unique" is an oversimplification.  The real constraint
  29. is weaker - all the names which can be matched by the paths you
  30. actually USE need to be unique.

  38. You simply configure dvips to use a path like
  39.  
  40.       /usr/local/lib/texmf/fonts/public//pk/mode-whatever//

  42. (in the printer-specific configuration file).

  44. Personally I find this use of embedded // slightly strange, and
  45. don't really like it, but it does the right thing and is all
  46. self-consistent.
